Crusaders race past Fayetteville Christian, 97-72
Freshman guard Zach Boggs scored 25 of his game-high 34 points in the second half as Grace Christian defeated visiting Fayetteville Christian 97-72 Monday night in a non-conference game between the Crusaders and Fayetteville Christian, of the 2A Cape Fear Independent Conference.
Fayetteville Christian led 20-18 after one period. Grace Christian answered to take a 44-31 halftime lead. The Crusaders finished the third quarter on a 12-0 run to build a 71-50 advantage.
The Crusaders used defensive pressure throughout the last three quarters to wear down the Trojans.
"We want to play an uptempo game and use our quickness in order to offset our lack of size and tonight was a great example of that," said Grace Christian head coach Tim Murr.
Grace Christian forced 34 Trojan turnovers for the game. Mark Riches scored 21 points for the Crusaders while B.J. Harrison had 17 points and seven rebounds and Isaac Kruger had 14 points and eight steals. Burak Eslik led the Trojans with 28 points.
In the girls' game at Grace Christian, Fayetteville Christian (16-1) ended Grace Christian's winning streak at 13 games on with a 75-55 win Monday night.
The Lady Crusaders trailed by three, 37-34, at halftime and by six, 54-48, heading to the fourth quarter before Fayetteville Christian pulled away. Gabrielle Bethel led Fayetteville Christian with 31 points.
Brooke Strickland led Grace Christian with 26 points and Anna Murr added 15 points.
Grace Christian (16-3, 5-0 Carolina Christian Conference) had a league game at Community Christian last night and will host Trinity Christian for a CCC game Friday at 6:30 p.m.
