Sanford Squids compete in Racin’ Rudolph Invitational
The Sanford Squids Swim Team recently competed against seven other swim clubs in the 2013 Rocky Mount Racin’ Rudolph Invitational at the Rocky Mount Family YMCA.
Sanford had 12 swimmers participate in the meet with Jennah Fadely, Andrew Jefferies and Eli Brightbill finishing with top honors.
Jefferies led the Squids by competing in eight events, winning the 11-12 year old boys 100 backstroke and 50 backstroke while finishing second in his six other races. He set new personal bests in all eight events.
Fadely finished second, setting new personal bests in all three of her events, the 10 and under girls 50 freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
Brightbill swam in four events, claiming first place honors in the 200 butterfly and 500 freestyle, finishing third in the 100 freestyle and sixth in the 100 backstroke.
Squids competing in the 10 and under events who had a good meet included Savannah Stouffer, who set six new personal bests in the girls 8 and under races, Rebecca McGaughnea, who set five new personal bests in the 10 and under girls events, Jonas Martin, who set two new personal bests in the eight and under 25 freestyle and the 10 and under 50 freestyle, and Patrick Numerick, who set a new personal best in the 10 and under boys 50 freestyle.
In the 11-12 year old girls competition, Samantha Von Donsel competed in seven events finishing second in the 100 freestyle and fourth in the 500 freestyle. In the open division, Marissa Devine set six new personal bests, Avery Harris set three and Morgan Fadely set a new personal best in the 200 breaststroke.
Exchange student Kim Krause from Berlin, Germany traveled with the Squids but swam unattached finishing first place in the girls 400 individual medley and setting personal bests in all four of her races.
The Squids will kick off the new year by competing in two meets on the weekend of Jan. 24-26. The Squids will swim at the Greensboro Aquatic Center for the 2013 STAR Friday Night at the Races on Jan. 24 and go to Burlington for the YBAC Quad Meet on Jan. 26.
