Vikings, Lady Vikings top Western Harnett

Lee County's defense held visiting Pinecrest to 19 points in the second half, changing a tied game at the half into a 60-46 Yellow Jacket win, their sixth straight win, Monday night.
Senior forward Dewaun McEachin led the Yellow Jackets with 26 points and six rebounds. McEachin shot 11 of 15 from the field.
In the backcourt, Tre'von Watson had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds along with four assists. Hunter Jackson had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists. Forward Keaun Toler added six points and three blocked shots.
From a 27-27 halftime score, Lee County edged ahead for a 39-34 lead going to the fourth quarter.
Lee County (13-1, 3-0), after five consecutive non-conference games, has a key Cape Fear Valley game on the road, at Terry Sanford (12-2, 3-0), at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Pinecrest (3-8) begins Southeastern Conference play going to Lumberton at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Lady Patriots (3-7) held off a Lee County (5-9, 1-2) rally in the fourth quarter to win 39-36 Monday evening at Lee County.
Sophomore guard Shantel Bennett led Lee County with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals. Tara Speelman added six points and Noelle Beattie had three points, eight rebounds and three assists. The Lady Yellow Jackets won the last period 13-9.
Pinecrest will play at Lumberton at 6 p.m. Friday. The Lady Jackets will play at Terry Sanford (7-6, 1-2) at 6 p.m. Friday.

Boys basketball
Union Pines 55, Western Harnett 46
The Vikings trailed by a point going to the fourth period before winning it 21-11 for a win over former Cape Fear Valley foe Western Harnett Monday night in Lillington.
Luke Davis led the Vikings with 13 points. Malik Crawford had 12 points and Armani McCoy added nine points.
Jonathan Buie led the Eagles with 20 points. William Carter scored 15 points.
Union Pines (6-8, 0-4 CFVC) will play a CFVC game at Douglas Byrd at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Western Harnett (1-13, 1-0 Two Rivers) will host a Two Rivers game versus Smithfield-Selma at 8 p.m. Friday.

Triton 47, Harnett Central 41
The Hawks trailed 21-18 at halftime at Harnett Central before going on to win their seventh straight game on Monday night.
D'Angelo Harris led the Hawks (9-4, 1-0 Two Rivers) with 13 points, nine steals, seven rebounds and five assists. Nick Parker had 12 points and five boards.
Anthony Staton led the Trojans with 18 points, including four three-pointers.
Triton will visit Cleveland for a Two Rivers game at 8 p.m. Friday. Harnett Central (4-8, 0-3 Greater Neuse River) played at Rolesville last night and will play at East Wake at 8 p.m. Thursday.

North Moore 63, O'Neal 35
The Mustangs (7-5, 4-0 Yadkin Valley) topped O'Neal (3-7) for the second time this season in Southern Pines Monday night.
North Moore will host West Montgomery for a YVC game at 7:30 p.m. Friday. O'Neal goes to Fayetteville Academy tonight, tipping off its Cape Fear Independent Conference slate at 7:30 p.m.

Girls basketball
Union Pines 51, Western Harnett 28
The Lady Vikings routed Western Harnett in the opening half, winning the second quarter 14-0 for a 32-5 halftime margin, Monday night.
Freshman guard Nyona Shields led the Lady Vikings with 10 points, five assists and five steals. Stephanie Johnson and Maresa Smith had eight points each. Tiffany Hicks had six points and 14 rebounds.
Union Pines (12-2, 4-0 CFVC) will play a conference game at Douglas Byrd at 6 p.m. Friday. Western Harnett (0-11, 0-1 Two Rivers) will host Smithfield-Selma at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Harnett Central 43, Triton 41
Harnett Central completed a three-game sweep over county-rival Triton Monday night.
Sophomore Madison Turlington led the victors with 15 points and Denise McNeill added eight points.
Erica Gaddy, Octavia Hart and Je'nae Harvey scored eight points each for the Lady Hawks.
Harnett Central (5-7, 0-3 Greater Neuse River) played at Rolesville last night and will play at East Wake at 6 p.m. Friday. Triton (4-9, 0-1 Two Rivers) will play a Two Rivers game at Cleveland at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
