Crusader freshman pours in 41
Freshman Zach Boggs scored 41 points, the most Grace Christian Tim Murr's had a freshman score in his 24 years of coaching basketball, and Grace Christian (10-5, 3-1) beat Ramseur-Faith Christian 72-54 on Tuesday night.
The Crusaders got their third straight win while playing without three starters, Mark Riches, Fernando DePaz and B.J. Harrison, out due to injuries.
Boggs scored 17 points in the opening quarter as the Crusaders jumped out to a 25-10 lead. He went on to make 7-of-14 three-pointers on the night.
"(Boggs) has been a scorer for us all along and the injuries gave him some extra shots in recent games and you can see him gain confidence," Murr said.
Isaiah Jones scored a career-high 11 points. Robert Fulton had 10 points and 12 rebounds. Isaac Kruger had 10 points and five steals.
“It was nice to see Boggs, Fulton, Kruger and Jones put up great numbers and Nolan Shoemake played great defense during the four games we played without our leaders but I am not surprised," Murr said. "They were just waiting for the opportunity to prove what they are capable of doing.”
