Union Pines tops Cavs for CFVC win

Union Pines 7, Southern Lee 4
Union Pines (7-2, 3-1) beat the visiting Cavaliers (5-2, 2-1) in a Cape Fear Valley Conference game Tuesday night.
Southern Lee led 2-0 through two innings before the Vikings scored seven runs in the next three innings. Noble Davis pitched 6.2 innings to get the win for the Vikings.
Jeffrey Thompson went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI for Union Pines. Dalton Garner went 3-for-4 and Phillip Hall went 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
For the Cavaliers, Derek Jackson went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Jared Kehagias and Connor Gaines had two hits each. Gaines pitched three innings and gave up four runs to take the loss.
Southern Lee plays at Pinecrest tonight at 7 p.m. Union Pines will go to Western Harnett Friday for a 7 p.m. start.

Pilot Mills 7, Grace Christian 5
The host Crusaders got 11 hits on Tuesday afternoon but fell at home to Pilot Mills.
Micah Welborn, Aaron Ayers and Caleb Welborn each went 2-for-3 at the plate for Grace. Freshman catcher Iden Swartzentruber had a 3-RBI double.
Montgomery Kirby pitched four innings and got a no decision. Micah Welborn got the loss.
Grace Christian (2-2) will host Friendship Christian Friday at 5 p.m.

Chatham Central 22, South Davidson 1
The Bears led 10-1 after one inning and kept rolling for a Yadkin Valley win at home Tuesday.
Victor Stinson pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and getting 10 strikeouts.
At the plate, Chase Fuquay went 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs and five RBI. Cole Garner went 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs and two RBI. Zack Burke went 2-for-4 with a triple, a homer, four runs and three RBI.
Chatham Central (3-3, 3-1) plays at East Montgomery tonight at 7 p.m.

North Moore 13, East Montgomery 12
North Moore (4-3, 4-1) hung on for a one-run win as East Montgomery (5-4, 3-3) scored eight straight runs in the last two innings at North Moore Tuesday night. The Mustangs host South Stanly tonight at 7 p.m.

Pine Forest 6, Overhills 3
Pine Forest (5-3, 3-1) beat the Jaguars for the second time this season at Overhills Tuesday night. The Jaguars (1-6, 1-2) played Cape Fear last night and will host Gray's Creek Friday at 7 p.m.

Triton 2, Cleveland 0
The Hawks (6-2, 2-2) blanked visiting Cleveland (4-4, 2-3) for an Eastern Carolina win Tuesday night.
Dillon Stewart pitched a complete game giving up five hits and striking out eight. Todd Penny and Brett McLamb knocked in one run each in the Triton fifth.
Triton hosts Harnett Central tonight at 6 p.m.

Clayton 10, Harnett Central 0
Clayton (2-5, 2-1) blanked the visiting Trojans (4-1, 1-1) in a Greater Neuse River game Tuesday night. Harnett Central plays at Triton tonight at 6 p.m.

Scotland 3, Pinecrest 1
The Fighting Scots (2-5, 1-1) gave the Patriots (7-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season in Southern Pines Tuesday night. Pinecrest hosts Southern Lee tonight at 7 p.m. The Patriots beat the Cavaliers 5-1 in Sanford on Mar. 1.

Cape Fear Christian 18, Community Christian 0
Cape Fear Christian (3-2, 1-0) won its Carolina Christian Conference opener at home Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles will host Wayne Christian in a CCC game Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Green Hope 7, Lee County 3
Lee County (3-4, 2-3) scored three runs in the top of the sixth to close within a 4-3 Green Hope lead in a Tri-Nine game on Tuesday. The Lady Falcons (3-4, 2-4) answered with three runs in the home half of the inning.
The Lady Yellow Jackets will host Athens Drive Friday at 5 p.m.

Chatham Central 16, South Davidson 0
Chatham Central (6-0, 6-0), now the top-ranked team in the state in the N.C. Softball Coaches Association 1A state poll, rolled in a Yadkin Valley game Tuesday at South Davidson.
Jessica Cockman hit a three-run homer for the Lady Bears in the first inning. A nine-run Bear third made it 13-0. Kelsey Hayes got the win in the circle.
Chatham Central played Jordan-Matthews last night and will go to Albemarle Friday for a 4:30 p.m. start.

Western Harnett 9, Douglas Byrd 1
The Lady Eagles (5-1, 4-0) made it five straight wins with a CFVC win at Douglas Byrd Tuesday night. Western Harnett will host Union Pines Friday at 7 p.m.

Triton 7, Cleveland 1
Triton (7-1, 3-1) handed visiting Cleveland (6-1, 4-1) its first loss of the season Tuesday night.
Julie Hodges pitched a complete game, giving up five hits and no walks, for the Lady Hawks. Kayce Graves and Erica Ocenna hit a homer each.
Triton played South View last night and will host Eastern Wayne Friday at 6 p.m.

Pine Forest 14, Overhills 0
Pine Forest rolled to a non-conference win at Overhills Tuesday night. The Lady Jaguars (1-5, 1-1) played Cape Fear last night and will host Gray's Creek Friday at 7 p.m.

Chapel Hill 17, Northwood 2
After two straight wins for the Chargers, Chapel Hill (4-2) routed the visiting Chargers (2-3) Tuesday night. Northwood will play at East Chapel Hill Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer
Fayetteville Homeschool 5, Grace Christian 2
Fayetteville Homeschool jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead and won at Grace Christian Tuesday afternoon.
Madison Bolen and Torie Boyte scored a goal each for the Lady Crusaders and Bridgette Angeles had an assist. Sarah Beard made eight saves.
Grace Christian (2-2-1) hosts Hickory Christian today at 4:30 p.m.

Pine Forest 1, Overhills 0
Pine Forest (5-1-1, 3-0-1) got a goal in the first half and won at Overhills (1-4-1, 0-1-0) Tuesday night. Overhills will play at Richmond Friday at 7 p.m.

Cleveland 5, Triton 2
Cleveland (7-1, 5-0) led 4-2 at halftime and went on to an Eastern Carolina win at Triton (4-3, 2-2) Tuesday night.
Carolina Rosado scored both Triton goals.
The Lady Hawks play at Southern Lee tonight at 7 p.m.
