Trojans get win in Easter tourney

Baseball

Harnett Central 6, Cleveland 4

The Trojans (8-2) homers from Trey Gledhill and Daryl Johnson and beat the Rams (5-8) on the first day of the Johnston County Easter Invitational on Saturday.

Harnett Central led 4-0 after two innings. Cole Hart pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one earned run while striking out seven, to get the win. Gledhill went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Johnson had three RBI.

Chatham Central 16, Durham School of the Arts 0

The Bears (8-4) rolled to a five-inning win on the last day of the Graham Athletic Boosters Tournament on Saturday, going 2-1 in the tournament.

Seth Elkins got the victory on the mound while going 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI for the Bear offense, which jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Victor Stinson went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple and three RBI. Chase Fuquay went 2-for-2 with three runs.

Chatham Central will host Jordan-Matthews on Thursday at 7 p.m.

South Stanly 2, North Moore 1

The Rowdy Rebel Bulls (13-0, 9-0) edged the visiting Mustangs in a Yadkin Valley game on Friday.

After South Stanly got two runs in the fifth, the Mustangs got a run in the sixth but couldn't get more.

North Moore (5-6, 5-4) will host North Rowan Tuesday at 7 p.m.

 

Softball

Harnett Central 9, Overhills 1

Harnett Central (4-5) cruised past county rival Overhills (3-9) on Thursday night.

Haley Grodi pitched a complete game allowing four hits. Anna Bain knocked in three RBI for the Lady Trojans.

Overhills will host Westover on April 9. Harnett Central will play at Knightdale on April 9.
