Crusaders take two over Friendship Christian
Freshman Zach Boggs hit four three-pointers and Grace Christian jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first two minutes of Tuesday night's game as the Crusaders (11-6, 3-2) rolled to a 63-34 win over visiting Friendship Christian.
Boggs poured in a game-high 28 points on the night. Mark Riches, who recently returned to action after an injury, had seven points and 10 assists and Robert Fulton added seven points as well.
The Crusaders led 31-10 at halftime. Grace Christian head coach Tim Murr was most pleased with the Crusader effort on defense.
"After giving up 105 points last Friday to Neuse (Christian) it was encouraging to see our players respond to the defensive emphasis we have had in practice this week," Murr said.
In Tuesday night's girls contest at Grace Christian, the Lady Crusaders got 26 points from Anna Murr and 25 points from Brooke Strickland and beat Friendship Christian 71-45. The Lady Crusaders ran their winning streak to 12 games.
The Lady Crusaders (15-2, 5-0) took control with a 31-9 second quarter for a 51-19 halftime lead. Grace was 8-for-17 from three-point range in the half.
Freshman point guard Alexis Ross added 10 points and 10 assists for Grace. Laura Bovard led Friendship with 20 points.
The Lady Crusaders are ranked No. 2 in the state in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association.
Both Crusader varsity teams will host Fayetteville Christian Monday evening with the girls' game set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
