The Sanford Area Soccer League (SASL) Horizon girls soccer team won the silver medal in the Powerade State Games June 22-23 in Charlotte. The Horizon, a 10-11 year-old team, played up in the U12 division.

“I feel they showed their skills, confidence and sportsmanship to overcome some tough competition,” said head coach Kevin Yow.

“These girls worked very hard for this tournament and throughout the season preceding it,” Yow said.

At the State Games, the Horizon won Group A with a 5-0 victory over Surge, a 2-1 win over the Mint Hill Hurricanes and a 2-2 draw versus the SSC Lady Strikers. DSC United FC beat SASL Horizon 6-0 in the championship match.
