Crusaders go 2-1 in Chatlee baseball tourney

Grace Christian 9, O'Neal 2

Grace Christian (7-3) trailed the Falcons 2-1 in the fourth inning but went on to a victory on the last day of the Chatlee Boat and Marine Easter Invitational Saturday morning at Union Pines.

Montgomery Kirby got the win on the mound for the Crusaders, who topped Enloe and O'Neal after falling to Southern Lee in the tournament. Micah Welborn and Shane Farnsworth the all-tournament team.

O'Neal (0-5) will play at Village Christian in a Cape Fear Independent game Thursday at 4 p.m.

The Crusaders will host Cape Fear Christian for a Carolina Christian game Tuesday at 5 p.m. The Crusaders and Eagles are undefeated in CCC play.

Jordan-Matthews 7, Northwood 3

The Jets (8-4) won at Northwood (11-3) Saturday afternoon in what amounts to a two-game county-rivalry series. Game two is set for Monday at 7 p.m. at Jordan-Matthews.

Massaponax (Va.) 9, Union Pines 7

Massaponax, visiting from Northern Virginia, beat the host Vikings in a semifinal game of the Chatlee Easter Invitational Friday night in Cameron.

Emmitt Carden had a homer and two RBI for the Vikings while Jeffrey Thompson had an RBI triple.

The Vikings (9-3) played Surry Central Saturday evening. Massaponax (5-4) faced Southern Lee in the tournament final Saturday night.

Surry Central 4, North Moore 1

Surry Central topped the Mustangs (6-7) in a Chatlee Easter Invitational game on Friday afternoon at Union Pines. Following the Chatlee event, North Moore gets back to Yadkin Valley play at Albemarle Tuesday at 7 p.m.


Union Pines 7, Jordan-Matthews 2

The Lady Vikings (9-1) won their ninth straight game, beating the Lady Jets (3-4) in Cameron on Friday. Union Pines resumes Cape Fear Valley play hosting Douglas Byrd Tuesday at 7 p.m. Jordan-Matthews hosts Northwood Monday at 6 p.m.

Girls soccer

Northwood 5, Franklin Academy 0

Northwood (3-5-1, 2-3-0) routed Franklin Academy (5-2-1, 3-2-1) for a conference victory on the road Friday night. Northwood travels to face Durham School of the Arts Monday at 7 p.m.
