Camels face Charleston Southern in Big South 1st round

Campbell will face Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. this evening in the first round of the VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Championship at The HTC Center in Conway, S.C.

The tournament begins with four first round games. Campbell (12-19, 6-10), the North Division’s No. 4 seed, meets South No. 5 Charleston Southern (12-17, 6-10) in the third game of the day.

Winthrop (17-12, 10-6) plays Liberty (11-20, 5-11) at 12 p.m. today followed by Radford (20-11, 10-6) vs. Presbyterian (6-25, 2-14).

Gardner-Webb (17-14, 10-6) vs. Longwood (8-23, 3-13) is the nightcap following the Camels and Buccaneers.

Campbell defeated Charleston Southern 65-57 on Jan. 29 at Buies Creek in the only meeting between the teams this year. Reco McCarter scored 14 points and dealt a career-high eight assists to lead a balanced Camel attack. Darius Leonard (14), Luke Moyer (13) and Leek Leek (11) also hit double figures for the Camels, who made 11 of 24 threes. Matt Kennedy led Charleston Southern with 20 points.

All games will be played at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina.

All four first round games will be broadcast live on The Big South Network presented by State Farm. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be carried on ESPN3 and WatchESPN. The championship game is set for Sunday live on ESPN2 at 12 p.m. 

The Big South tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
