Northview Allstars make final four in Alabama

The Northview Allstars have advanced to the semifinals of the Cal Ripken League 11-and-under Southeast Regional Tournament, having won three of their first four contests over the last three days in Alabama.

Northview needed an extra inning to edge West Ashley, S.C., 4-2 in seven innings, to move through the quarterfinals on Saturday. West Ashley had gone 3-0 in pool play. Ryan Jones gave the Allstars a go-ahead RBI single to break the tie in the top of the seventh.

Northview tied the game, 2-2, with a run in the fourth. Timmy Parker started and pitched six innings. Joshua Thomas pitched the bottom of the seventh and held the lead to get the win.

Clean-up man Caleb Reynolds went 3-for-3 with two singles and a double. Thomas Harrington, at the top of the order, went 3-for-4.

Northview went 2-1 in its pool play Thursday and Friday to reach the quarterfinals, but had to survive and advance after an opening loss.

Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. defeated Northview 8-6 on Thursday. Two two-run homers put Palm Beach Gardens out to a 4-1 lead after one inning.

Northview fought back within a 6-5 deficit through three innings. Trailing 8-5 going to the last half-inning, Northview plated one run but couldn't keep the comeback going.

Keshaun Mays hit a solo home run in the Northview third and went 2-for-2. Harrington, Thomas and Parker each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Northview bounced back later Thursday for a 14-7 victory over Shenandoah, Va.

It wasn't as easy as the final score looked. Northview scored four runs in the fifth to take an 8-5 lead before tacking on six more runs in the sixth. Northview totaled 15 hits.

Dean Carver had a three-RBI double in the sixth as well as triple earlier in the game. Logan Hair had a two-RBI double. Reynolds knocked in two RBI. Parker went 3-for-3 at the plate. Jones had an RBI double and was hit by pitch twice.

On Friday, Northview advanced through its pool with a 10-0 win over Westside, Ala.

Thomas pitched a four-inning complete game, allowing one hit. Thomas got three strikeouts. Northview's defense played an errorless game behind its pitcher. Parker and Jones knocked in two RBI each.

The regional tournament concludes Sunday with the semifinals and championship game.
