Cavaliers move into first in CFVC baseball

Southern Lee 15, Westover 1

The Cavaliers (15-3, 7-1) rolled to their 10th straight win, third straight double-digit win and, combined with other results in the Cape Fear Valley Conference Tuesday night, moved into first place in the CFVC with a victory at Westover.

The Cavs have allowed nine runs in their 10-game win streak. Southern Lee will play at Lee County tonight at 7 p.m. The Cavaliers beat the Yellow Jackets 11-1 last Thursday.

Union Pines 3, Gray's Creek 0

The Vikings (12-4, 6-1) scored all of their runs in the fifth inning to win at Gray's Creek (12-4, 6-2) Tuesday night. The Bears, with a 7-1 win on March 15, gave the Vikings their only CFVC loss on the season.

Emmitt Carden went 3-for-3 and scored a run for the Vikings. Jeffrey Thompson and Dalton Garner had one RBI each.

Noble Davis tossed a three-hit shutout with three strikeouts. The Viking defense played an errorless game.

Southern Lee leads Union Pines by a half-game and Gray's Creek by one game in the Cape Fear Valley standings.

Union Pines played Overhills last night and is slated to play at Southern Lee Friday at 7 p.m.

Wayne Christian 7, Grace Christian 4

Wayne Christian beat the visiting Crusaders in a Carolina Christian game Tuesday afternoon. Grace Christian (8-6, 3-2) hosts Wake Christian today at 5 p.m.

North Rowan 2, Chatham Central 0

North Rowan's Clint Veal pitched a three-hitter as the Cavaliers (9-8, 6-6) avenged a 12-0 loss to the Bears from March 15 Tuesday night in Bear Creek.

Seth Elkins went 2-for-3 with two doubles for the Bears. Zack Burke took the loss, pitching a complete game giving up an earned run and four hits while striking out 10.

Chatham Central (9-6, 7-3) played Eastern Randolph last night and will play at South Davidson Friday at 7 p.m.

Providence Grove 4, Jordan-Matthews 2

Providence Grove (11-6, 7-2) earned a regular season split with the Jets (12-5, 6-3) Tuesday night at Providence Grove. Jordan-Matthews hosts West Montgomery tonight at 7 p.m.

Northwood 13, Granville Central 5

The Chargers (13-4, 9-0) remained perfect in Carolina 12 play in Stem Tuesday night. Northwood travels to play Cedar Ridge Friday at 7 p.m.

Western Harnett 5, Overhills 1

The Eagles (5-10, 4-5) won at Overhills (4-11, 3-5) for a regular season sweep in the county rivalry.

Western Harnett will host Douglas Byrd in a CFVC game Friday at 7 p.m. Overhills played Union Pines last night and will play at Gray's Creek Tuesday night.


Harnett Central 14, Southeast Raleigh 3

The Trojans (11-4, 5-2) routed Southeast Raleigh (1-10, 0-8) in a Greater Neuse River game Tuesday night. Harnett Central hosted Garner last night and will host Clayton Friday at 7 p.m.


Scotland 9, Pinecrest 4

The Fighting Scots (8-9, 4-3) completed a regular season sweep over the Patriots in Laurinburg Tuesday night.

Pinecrest (11-6, 3-4) played Pine Forest last night and will get back to Southeastern play hosting Purnell Swett Friday at 7 p.m.

Softball

Western Harnett 6, Overhills 3

Western Harnett (9-4, 7-2) doubled up the Lady Jaguars (4-10, 4-4) in a Cape Fear Valley game in Spring Lake Tuesday night.

Taylor Hains pitched the complete-game victory. Hannah Cockerham had a double and two RBI for the Lady Eagles.

Megan Buse had two doubles and two RBI for Overhills.

Overhills played at Union Pines last night and is slated to play at Gray's Creek Tuesday night.

Western Harnett played at Lee County last night and will host Douglas Byrd Friday at 7 p.m.


Union Pines 4, Gray's Creek 3

After Gray's Creek (11-6, 5-3) had fought back from an early 3-1 Lady Viking lead, the Lady Vikings (11-2, 7-0) scored a run in the sixth inning and held on for a CFVC win, remaining perfect in the CFVC, at Hope Mills Tuesday night.

Union Pines sweeps Gray's Creek and leads Western Harnett by a game, with two games in hand, in the CFVC race. The Lady Vikings played Overhills last night and will play at Southern Lee Friday at 6 p.m.

Jordan-Matthews 8, Providence Grove 6

The Lady Jets (9-5, 7-2) rallied from a 6-0 deficit entering the fourth inning to get a Mid-State victory, splitting with Providence Grove for the regular season, in Siler City Tuesday night.

Holly Clark hit a three-run home run giving the Lady Jets an 8-6 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Clark, while getting the pitching victory, also tallied a double, a triple and four RBI at the plate. Madison Poe had two hits and two RBI.

The Lady Jets will play at Bartlett Yancey Friday at 6 p.m.

Granville Central 5, Northwood 4, 12 innings

In a clash at the top of the Carolina 12, Granville Central (11-1, 7-1) gave the Lady Chargers (9-3, 6-1) their first league loss in Stem Tuesday night.

Northwood scored four runs in the top of the seventh taking a 4-2 lead. Granville Central answered to force extra innings.

Northwood will play at Cedar Ridge Friday at 7 p.m.

Pinecrest 4, Scotland 2

The Lady Patriots won at Scotland (6-5, 5-2) Tuesday night, avenging a 7-0 Scotland win back in March. The Lady Patriots (4-7, 3-4) played Pine Forest last night and will host Purnell Swett Friday at 7 p.m.

Girls soccer

Grace Christian 3, Wayne Christian 1

The Lady Crusaders (8-5-2, 5-1-0) scored twice after the hosts tied the match in the second half to get a Carolina Christian Conference victory Tuesday afternoon.

Torie Boyte scored from Kaycee Murr's assist and Grace Christian led 1-0 at halftime.

Following Wayne Christian making it a 1-1 score, Boyte scored off an assist by Madison Bolen, then Bolen scored from Katie Cook's assist.

Grace Christian hosts Statesville Christian today at 4 p.m.

Overhills 4, Western Harnett 2

The Lady Jaguars (8-5-2, 6-2-1) completed a season sweep over Western Harnett (0-10, 0-7) in Spring Lake Tuesday night.

The Lady Eagles play at Triton this evening at 6 p.m. Overhills plays at Pine Forest tonight at 7 p.m.


South Davidson 3, North Moore 1

South Davidson (3-7-2, 3-5-2) won the second half 2-0 for a Yadkin Valley win over visiting North Moore (2-8-1) Tuesday night. The Lady Mustangs host North Moore tonight at 6:30 p.m.


O'Neal 5, Fayetteville Christian 0

The Lady Falcons (2-5-1, 1-3-0) got a Cape Fear Independent Conference victory at Fayetteville Christian Tuesday. O'Neal plays at Trinity School today at 4 p.m.


Boys lacrosse

Chapel Hill 19, Northwood 0

Chapel Hill (8-3, 5-2) rolled past the Chargers for a conference victory in Pittsboro Tuesday night. Northwood (2-9, 1-6) will play at Carrboro Friday at 6 p.m.
