PITTSBORO — Ethel Mae Pugh Baldwin, 83, of 327 Nash Baldwin Road, died Sunday (1/20/13) at her residence.

She is survived by her eight children, Lynn Baldwin Jr. (Jean), Herman L. Baldwin (Wendy), H. Clifton Baldwin (Brenda), Genis E. Baldwin (Frankie), Pamela A. Baldwin, Vernon G. Baldwin, Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin (Wynell), R. Samuel Baldwin, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral service will be conducted at noon Saturday at Mitchell Chapel AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until noon prior to the service Saturday. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

SANFORD — O'Neil Deshawn Davis, 26, of 2023 Eveton Lane, Apt. 7, died Thursday (1/17/13) at Duke Hospital in Durham.

He was born on April 29, 1986, in Sanford. He grew up in Hope Mills and Fayetteville. He moved back to Sanford in June 2012.

He is survived by his mother, Beverly Flournoy (Steven Leak); father, Freeman O’Neil Stroud (Betty Robinson); one son, Jakai Illanio NeSmith (Taylor); two aunts; three uncles; grandfather, Neil Freeman Stroud (Betty); four brothers, Don A. Flournoy Jr., (Maria), Freeman (Tony) Smith (Patricia), Lewis Perry and Cortese Davis; four sisters, Tasha Davis, Markia Priest (Deion), Sheashona Begeal and Shajuana Cole; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Memorial service will be conducted today at 3 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel.

SANFORD — Memorial services for Aaron David Powers and Katherine May Powers were held Friday, Jan. 18, at 6 p.m. at Miller-Boles Chapel with the Rev. Charlie Martin officiating.

Two special songs were played. One special song was performed by Melanie Johnson. Special readings were given by Michelle Dunigan and Ashley Johnson.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Michael Edward Moody was held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rives Chapel Baptist Church in Siler City with the Rev. Kenneth Dowdy and the Rev. Michael Oldham officiating.

One special song was played, and one special song was performed by Elaine Haithcox. Pianist was Jill Lucas.

Pallbearers were Tommy McNeill, Randy Seagroves, Monty Terrell, Joe Tillman, Ed Lynch, Mike Yarborough and Mike Hutchins.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Rives Chapel Cemetery in Siler City.

SANFORD — Funeral service for Foy Nelson “Nick” Jones was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hunt Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Hancox officiating.

Two special songs were played by Debbie Oldham. Soloist was Eddie Oldham and soundman was Steven Garner.

Pallbearers were active members of the Army National Guard.

Following the funeral, a graveside service was held at Lee Memory Gardens with full military honors by the Army National Guard.

VASS — Chancey Samuel Ward Sr., 86, died Monday (1/21/13) at his home.

Memorial service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Open Arms Community Church with Pastor John Brown officiating, with military honors to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

He was born in Charlotte on Dec. 23, 1926, to Herschal and Ruby Funderburk Ward. He worked as a golf pro at Woodlake Country Club and was a member of Open Arms Community Church. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschal and Ruby Funderburk Ward; one sister, Clara McFarland; two brothers, Herbert Ward and Herschal Ward; and one grandchild.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Daniel Ward; four children, Chancey Samuel Ward Jr. and wife Elaine of West End, Cynthia Ward Huntley and husband Andy of Southern Pines, Jacquelyn Ward Bettini and husband Mike of Aberdeen, Kenneth Ward and wife Myrtle of Carthage; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

SANFORD — Jamie Lloyd Williams, 33, died Tuesday (1/22/13) at his residence. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Miller-Boles Funeral Home.



NEW HILL — Carl Lee Morris, 92, of 3600 Old U.S. 1, died Thursday (1/24/13) at Wake Medical in Cary.

He was born in Wake County on Aug. 11, 1920, son of the late Jasper Morris and Leoni Ferguson Morris. He was a World War II, U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby Lashlee Morris; three sisters, Ina Morris Bishop, Ola Morris Booth and Hazel Morris Bowling; and one brother, Cecil Thomas Morris.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Hill Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Jimmy Holder.

He is survived by one sister, Virginia Morris Horner of Moncure, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the graveside service in the church annex of the New Hill Baptist Church.
