SANFORD — Alma Jeanette Oakley, 89, of Sanford, formerly from Old Salem, passed away Monday (03/06/23) at Westfield Rehabilitation Center.
Jeanette was born on Feb. 5, 1934 to Robert M. and Mary Angel Oakley. She was reared in Harnett County in the Broadway area and educated both in Harnett and Forsyth counties. She worked as a Nurses Assistant and Manicurist. She graduated from Boone Trail and had further education in Winston-Salem.
She was a member of Home Moravian Church in Old Salem where she lived for several years. Jeanette was also a member of the National Wildlife Federation and the Humane Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Martha O Shepherd and Beulah O. Dickens.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth O. Cox of Sanford; nieces, Frances Diane Dickens of South Carolina and Deborah Sue Cox of Sanford; nephews, Robert Allen Dickens, Terence Shepherd and Tommy Dickens all of Sanford; great-nephew, Kyle Robert Kleinhans and great-niece, Kathelyn Mae Kleinhans.
The graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9 at Jonesboro Cemetery with The Rev. Robert Thomas presiding. A family visitation will be at the funeral home from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
The family requests donations be made to Home Moravian Church, 529 S. Church St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 in memory of Joseph Alford Patterson, MD.
