The V Foundation for Cancer Research is proud to announce the sixth annual Victory Ride to Cure Cancer, presented by CBS 17, was held on Saturday, May 20, where riders raised over $285,000 for cancer research. The event, hosted at Knightdale Station Park, brought over 550 riders and volunteers to the new venue. Since the first Victory Ride in 2018, participants have raised nearly $1.7 million to fund game-changing cancer research by all-star scientists.
“The Victory Ride is an uplifting event that unites a passionate community of riders, volunteers and supporters who share our vision of victory over cancer,” said Shane Jacobson, CEO of the V Foundation. “This day is so impactful because we are not only funding lifesaving cancer research at renowned institutions, but also creating a space to honor the many friends, family members and loved ones who have faced this disease.”
For the first time this year, the Victory Ride kicked off at Knightdale Station Park, which offered a family-friendly atmosphere for riders and spectators alike to enjoy the park setting and surrounding trails, greenways and children’s areas. The V Foundation has hosted the Victory Ride each year in the greater Triangle area to engage the local community, although the ride also brings participants from around the state and country. The event included 10-, 30-, and 60-mile routes that weaved through beautiful greenways and scenic areas around eastern North Carolina. For those who couldn’t attend in person, the Victory Ride also included a virtual option for riders to choose a day, time, and location that worked best for them, maximizing the accessibility of the ride for all.
“My favorite part of this event every year is seeing riders of all levels and experiences come together for a cause that is so meaningful,” said Victory Rider Matt McDougall. “We are all riding for a reason, for someone we love, and to support research that will put an end to cancer. That’s what this day is all about.”
Riders were offered a complimentary breakfast from Chick-fil-A before the ride commenced. After the completion of the ride, participants enjoyed a post-event festival complete with music and refreshments from local establishments including Poblanos Tacos, Chick-N-Que, Doherty’s Paddy Wagon, Bond Brothers Beer Company, Crank Arm Brewing Company, Raleigh Brewing Company, Trophy Brewing and Corona.
One unique aspect of the Victory Ride is that 100% of rider-raised funds directly benefit research at the three North Carolina-based NCI-designated cancer centers: Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, and Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Comprehensive Cancer Center.
