SANFORD — Anthony Morris Worrell, 67, of Sanford, passed away Thursday (09/09/21) at his residence.

Anthony was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on Sept. 14, 1953, to Silas Worrell and Mary Alease Dowd Worrell. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ms. Artricia M. Hudson and brother in law, John Cross.

Anthony lived in Virginia until the passing of his mother, then moved to North Carolina where his grandmother, Mrs. Linner Dowd raised him and his siblings. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1971, then attended trucking school with the state of North Carolina. He worked at Honeywell in Moncure as a warehouse inventory specialist for 35 years and then retired.

After retirement he continued driving trucks for 20 years until his health declined. He owned his own business Worrell Sports and Prints for many years, supplying clothing, shoes, cds and dvds. He was also a DJ for many occasions. He was the founder of the Togetherness social club where he hosted many community events with van and motorcycle clubs.

He leaves to cherish his memories two children; Morris Worrell and Shawntina Perry; four grandchildren Jaylen Bethea, Laniyah Bethea, Aliyonna Bethea and Navaeh Bethea; two sisters Elder Patsy Cross and Sharon Hooker (John); one brother, Michael Worrell (Goldie); his special companion, Theresa Jackson; best friends, Ricky Flowers, Reggie Cannady, Ricky Dell, and Renee Bunnell and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral is 1 p.m. Wednesday at Knotts Funeral Home. Burial follows at Liberty Chapel Church Cemetery in Moncure.
