Guard Luana Serranho, a native of Portugal, is back for the Campbell women’s basketball team after averaging 10.2 ppg last season.

Dates with Virginia Tech, East Carolina, a tournament in Las Vegas and an 18-game Big South Conference slate highlight the 2021-22 Campbell women’s basketball schedule.

The Camels will also host in-state rivals UNC Wilmington and Western Carolina at Gore Arena as well as nine Big South contests. Season tickets for games will be available for purchase next week.

“Our nonconference schedule is certainly one of the program’s toughest to date,” sixth-year head coach Ronny Fisher stated. “After an abbreviated season schedule a year ago, we are excited by the challenging full slate of games we’ll face this season.”

Campbell faces opponents from the ACC, American, CAA, Horizon League, MAC, MEAC and Southern Conference in nonconference play.

Coming off a runner-up finish at the Big South Championship, Campbell opens with three games at home starting with Pfeiffer on Nov. 9.

“We anticipate a great atmosphere in our season opener inside Gore Arena against Pfeiffer, marking our first game in front of our amazing fans since March 2020.”

The first month of play includes road contests at Virginia Tech on Nov. 20 and East Carolina on Nov. 28 in addition to a home game against UNCW on Nov. 23.

Campbell wraps up nonconference play in Las Vegas at the Holiday Hoops Classic featuring games against defending MAC champion Bowling Green and Oakland.

“The strength of our nonconference opponents will force us to compete at a very high level and will ultimately prepare us for the upcoming battles in the Big South.”

Conference play for the Camels starts at home against Hampton on Dec. 29. The schedule also includes home and home dates against High Point, Longwood and Big South newcomers North Carolina A&T.

The 2022 Hercules Tires Big South Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships will be held in Charlotte, N.C. at historic Bojangles’ Coliseum. The tournament is scheduled for March 1-6, leading up to Championship Sunday on March 6.

Last season Campbell finished 16-7 overall including an 11-4 mark in league play with an appearance in the Big South Championship title game. The Camels return four starters and 10 letter winners from last season, led by All-Big South performers Shy Tuelle and Taya Bolden.
