Southern Lee opened Tri-County Conference action on Tuesday night with a 14-4 rout of Western Harnett in the first of the team’s two games with the Eagles this week.
The Cavaliers (2-1, 1-0 TCC) actually trailed for much of the night, but exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning to turn a 4-2 deficit into an 11-4 lead. Three more runs followed in the seventh to turn the game into a complete blowout.
Western Harnett took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and extended it to 3-0 after two before Southern Lee got on the board to start the third. The Eagles added a run in the bottom of the fourth, only to see the Cavaliers immediately get it back in the top of the fifth. The game appeared to be headed to a tight finish before Southern’s bats got going late.
The Cavaliers will face Western again on Friday at 7 p.m. at home.
