SANFORD — Donald Eugene Strange, a retired US Air Force Chief Master Sergeant, 71, of Sanford, passed away Sunday (01/10/22).

Mr. Strange was born in Hazel Dell, Illinois, son of Elsworth Strange and Stella Yelton Strange. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers John Strange and Charles Strange and sister, Edie Brandenburg.

He was a combat veteran serving in Vietnam as an aircraft electrician and Desert Storm as an air weapons controller. He was a member of the VFW and the Western Harnett Lions Club. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many activities within his Carolina Lakes community.

Mr. Strange is survived by his wife, Margaret “Peggy” Hayter Strange; sister, Helen Wade (Jim); brother, Kenneth Strange (Hazel); sisters-in-law Jamie Hockaday (Jon), Kay Strange and Nancy Greer (Eddie) and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Thursday at Rogers Pickard Funeral Home. COVID 19 guidelines will be followed and facial coverings are requested. A graveside service with full military honors is at noon on Friday at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery.
