SANFORD — Larry Wayne Bowen, Jr. 72, of Sanford, met his Savior face to face on Friday (01/07/22).
Larry Wayne Bowen Jr. was born on Dec. 27, 1949 to Doris Defee Bowen and Larry Wayne Bowen, Sr.. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In 1971, Wayne enlisted in the 82nd Airborne Division as a reservist, where he served for seven years. Once a month for seven years he cooked for the troops and gained a reputation for being a pretty good cook.
In his early years, he was an active and vital member of the Sanford Jaycees and served on PTO offices at his children’s schools. He enjoyed lots of hobbies including, boats, cars, guitars and visiting Kure Beach. He especially loved participating with the praise team at East Sanford Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. He accomplished much in his lifetime, but if asked, his children were his greatest accomplishment of all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Suzanne Neal Bowen and children Paige Bowen Batchelor, John Morgan Bowen and Christopher Lynn Bowen.
A celebration of life with military honors is 2 p.m. Thursday at East Sanford Baptist Church in Sanford with the Rev. Robbie Gibson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
