The 2021 SMGA Club Championship was held over the weekend at the Sanford Municipal Golf Course, with Jack Radley of the Sanford Golf Club running away with this year’s title.
Radley shot an opening round of 65 on Saturday and all but ended the competition that day, as he ended it with a six-shot lead over David Barbour. He then had another dominant round on Sunday, again shooting the day’s low score at 67. His two-day total of 132 won the event by nine shots over runner-up Keith Thomas. Brad Wicker was third overall, another four shots back at 145. Barbour ended up fourth at 146 and Brandon Jones fifth at 147.
Radley won a $130 prize for winning the club title. Thomas collected $110 and Wicker $90.
As is typical for these types of tournaments, the field was flighted after the first day of play. Merritt Foushee won the second flight with a two-day total of 151. Kyle Wicker was second at 152, while Allen Cunningham and Dan Johnson tied for third at 153. They won the same prizes as the championship flight winners, with Cunningham and Johnson sharing the $90 third prize.
Roy Eubanks shot 72 on Sunday and ran off with the third flight and the $130 that came with it. His two-day total of 153 won by six strokes over Phil Liles and Tim Marion, who split the second- and third-place prize pools and each received $100.
Jimmy Vause won the fourth flight with a two-day total of 162, eight shots up on Steve Harrington and Tom Eshbach. Like the third fight golfers, the winner received $130 and the two runners-up each earned $100.
Michael Fox and Mike Boswell shared the win in the fifth flight, with a score of 180, and each received $120.
