Baseball season is kicking off in Sanford with a local, semi-professional league.

The Central North Carolina Men’s Senior Baseball League is made up of 18 teams from Sanford, Sandhills and across the Triangle.

Players are divided into three divisions based on age — 18+, 40+ and 50+.

The league started its 20-game season Sunday afternoon with a match-up between the Chatham Bulls and Raleigh Barons.

The Bulls won 10-6, marking the first time in years they have beat the Barons and the first time ever they’ve beat the Barons in a season opener.

The Bulls will continue their charge as they face the Sanford Bulldogs on April 18.

The game is 12:30 p.m. at Southern Lee High School. The league, which was founded in 1989, has games scheduled through September, with a postseason playoff round leading to a three-game championship series.
