ABERDEEN — Sixth-graders at a Moore County middle school will do remote learning until May 12 after eight students tested positive for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 cluster was reported at Southern Middle School in Aberdeen after the students tested positive a week ago, the release said.

A cluster is defined as a minimum of five positive cases will illness onsets or initial positive results in a 14-day period, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

The students have been quarantined and those in close contact with them have been notified. They have been advised to quarantine for two weeks, the release said.
