Registration is open for Lee County’s 2021 Senior Games and Silver Arts, an annual tournament for people age 50 or older that was canceled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The tournament includes a variety of sports events, including table tennis and pickleball competitions, as well as contests for local artists. Since COVID-19 still presents a threat, the tournament will have a mix of in-person and virtual events this year, according to county spokeswoman Jamie Brown.

The games are set for June 2-18. In order to avoid large group gatherings, the tournament will not include its traditional opening ceremony. All Silver Arts events are virtual.

“Event staff and volunteers will continue to observe pandemic protocols and guidelines to help ensure all participants remain safe and healthy throughout the competition series,” Lee County Senior Services Director Debbie Davidson said in the news release. “For those uncomfortable competing in-person, we have arranged for a number of opportunities to compete virtually.”

Registration fees have been waived for all 2021 participants but event fees for bowling and golf still apply, the release stated. Registration forms must be completed and returned by May 15.

Registration forms are available online at leecountync.gov/departments/seniorservices or at the Lee County Enrichment Center, 1615 S. Third St., Sanford. For more information, call 919-776-0501.
