A Sanford man was arrested last week on charges from a fatal October wreck in Harnett County.
James Julian Ramel McKendall, 22, of 510 Cross St., is charged with the misdemeanors death by vehicle and reckless driving.
The wreck happened about Oct. 11, about 6:20 p.m., on U.S. 421 near Seminole Road, 1.5 miles southeast of Broadway, according to a report filed by Highway Patrol Trooper A.L. Williamson.
McKendall, driving a 2001 Jaguar, was eastbound on U.S. 421 when his car crossed the center line and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2014 Nissan sedan, the report said.
The driver of the sedan, Estrella Villa Pena, 19, of 185 Lake Heron Drive, Cameron, was killed and pronounced dead at Betsy Johnson Hospital in Dunn, the report said.
McKendall was traveling about 73 mph when the vehicles collided the report states. Pena’s car traveled 54 feet after impact.
The arrest warrants were served Jan. 12 by Sanford police. McKendall’s since been released on an unsecured bond.
