A Sanford man is accused of shooting another person early Saturday in the 300 block of Crestview Street, according to the Sanford Police Department.
Officers were called to that location about 4:15 a.m. after receiving a report of shots fired in the area, a police release said.
While responding to Crestview Street, officers were told that a gunshot victim had been brought to Central Carolina Hospital, the release said.
As officers arrived, they observed a vehicle learning the area at a high rate of speed.
Police tried to stop the vehicle and after a brief chase, the driver stopped.
He was identified as Chad Marques Jennings, 38, of the 200 block of North Gulf Street, Sanford, the release said.
The victim, who was taken to the hospital in a personal vehicle, was Elijio Lasandrus Hooker, 44, of the 4300 block of Steele Bridge Road, Sanford.
Hooker had gunshot wounds to his lower back, hip and left, the release said, but he was treated and released.
Jennings is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, possession of firearm by a felon, possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number, injury to personal property and speeding to elude arrest.
Bail was set at $125,000.
