SANFORD — Billy Banks Boggs, 90, of Sanford, died Wednesday (03/31/21) at First Health Hospice in Pinehurst.

He was born in Lee County, son of Robert Franklin Boggs and Camilla Cox Boggs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Billy Banks Boggs Jr.; sisters Minnie L. Angell, Betty Jean Boggs Beal; and brothers, Robert Boggs, Ed Boggs, Albert Boggs, William Boggs and Richard Boggs.

Billy was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Sanford Produce Company.

Surviving is his wife of 68 years, Libby Thomas Boggs of the home; daughter, Marilyn Hunter and husband R. Merrill Hunter, MD, of Raleigh; son, Carl W. Boggs and wife Bonnie of Sanford; grandchildren, Cameron Boggs, DMV, Casey Boggs (Kylei), Katie Cecil (Sean), Christopher Hunter, MD (Janel, MD), Matthew Hunter (Laura) and Anna Underwood (Cody); and great-grandchildren, Wilhelmina (Minnie), Hugo, James, Thomas, Adalyn, Joni, Amelia and Olivia.

The graveside funeral service is 2 p.m. Saturday at the Juniper Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. J. Scott Finicum officiating. Viewing is 9 a.m.-noon Friday and Saturday at the funeral home.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, masks are requested for the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Broadway United Methodist Church or Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption in Sanford.
