SANFORD — Patricia Ann Griffin Austin, 83, of Sanford, passed away peacefully on Thursday (06/17/21) at her home surrounded by her family.
Patricia was born in Cumberland County on March 17, 1938, the daughter of James Algora Griffin and Elsie (Thomas) Griffin.
Pat was a graduate of Sanford Central High School, Class of 1956, where she excelled and lettered in basketball.
In her early years, she owned and operated Patricia Austin Figure Salon, Pat’s Wiggery and Pat’s Boutique. She managed Austin Real Estate and worked side by side for 47 years with her husband, Dr. Donald E. Austin, as office manager, x-ray tech and receptionist.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sanford and the North Carolina Chiropractic Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Donald E. Austin Sr.; her mother, Elsie Griffin; father, James Algora Griffin; and two brothers Harold and Gary Griffin.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Donald “Skip” Austin Jr. and husband, Billy G. Hutchins, of Sanford, Terry Austin Martin and husband, John K. Martin, of Sanford, Dr. Linda Dee Austin-Cox and husband, Danny Hugh Cox, of Sanford, and Janet Gail Wilkie and husband, Marcus, of Asheville.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Ashley Barnes and husband, Scott, of Sanford, Taylor Austin, Dalton Cox, Dylan Cox, and Austin James “AJ” Wilkie; great-grandchildren Jordan Cram and Skyler Barnes.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Miller-Boles Funeral Home in Sanford. A funeral service follows at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Patterson officiating. Burial follows in Lee Memory Garden. The family will receive friends following the graveside at her home.
