SANFORD — W.A. “Dub” Barbour Jr., 88, passed away Tuesday (04/13/21) at home with his family by his side.
He was born in Johnston County on June 6, 1932, to Willie Algier Barbour and Pauline Lanning Barbour. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter Shelia Barbour Bolduc and sister Margie Dean.
Dub was the owner and operator of Center Heating & Air Conditioning in Sanford since 1970. He was a charter member of Hillview Christian Assembly and served in the National Guard and Civil Air Patrol. Dub was once active in the Gideons, Shriners and Salvation Army. He loved to “ring the bell” and used to raise more donations than anyone.
The American Legion honored him during a convention in San Antonio, Texas, for hiring the most veterans at his business. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years Joyce McDuffie Barbour; son Mike Barbour and wife Jan of Sanford; daughter Rhonda B. Williams and husband Jerry of Ohio; brothers, Billy Barbour and wife Annette, Bobby Barbour and wife Mary; sisters, Rose Hause and husband Floyd, and Mary Rogers, all of Sanford. He is also survived by grandchildren, Dana Hamm, Lori Slifer and husband Scott, Christian Bolduc, Carson Bolduc, Nichole Doan, Justine Yigitbasi, Desiree Williams, Meggan Williams and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family.
Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Hillview Christian Assembly. The funeral service follows at 2 p.m. with Pastor Ray Boden officiating. Burial will follow at Shallow Well Church Cemetery. You may also visit the family at the family home.
