Boys basketball Grace Christian 83, Comm.Christian 73
Grace Christian, led by the frontcourt combo of Jesse Mitchell with 35 points and Ma’kyi Butler with 31 points, beat Community Christian to win the Mid-Carolina Conference Tournament championship Friday night at Grace Christian. The Crusaders (17-13) and the Cyclones split their two regular-season meetings.
In the final, Grace Christian led 14-12 after a quarter and made it a 43-26 lead by halftime. Community Christian’s Anthony Speight scored 33 points.
Rahmeen Harris scored nine points for the Crusaders as Miles Matson had five points and Gavin Brewer had three points. Mitchell was voted the Tournament MVP. Butler and Gavin Brewer made the All-Tournament Team.
Grace Christian is the No. 3 seed in the NCISAA 1A State Tournament and got a bye through the first round to a home game in the second round set for Thursday.
Union Pines 44, Southern Lee 24
The Vikings (6-3, 5-2) handed the visiting Cavaliers (7-3, 6-1) their first Tri-County 6 loss of the season, stopping Southern Lee’s 24-game conference season winning streak Friday night.
Ahmad Jones led the Vikings with 11 points. Georion McDougald led SL with eight points. Union Pines led 19-11 at halftime.
Southern Lee leads Union Pines by a game, with the two sides having split games, with three conference games to go.
Southern Lee hosts Harnett Central at 7 p.m. tonight. Union Pines played Harnett Central last night and plays at Triton at 7 p.m. tonight.
Chatham Central 60, Jordan-Matthews 59
The Bears (6-1, 4-1 Yadkin Valley) beat county rival Jordan-Matthews (4-8, 3-7 PAC 7) in Bear Creek Friday night.
Chatham Central plays a YVC game at South Davidson at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Jordan-Matthews played Wheatmore last night and will host Providence Grove at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Pinecrest 57, Hoke County 36
The Patriots (9-1, 7-0) repeated as Sandhills Athletic season champions and finished an undefeated SAC season Friday night.
No. 1 Pinecrest played No. 8 Scotland in the first round of the SAC Tournament last night. The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday night.
Northwood 51, Northern Durham 43
Northwood (9-2, 9-2) built a big lead in the first half, for a 30-12 halftime lead, and hung on to win at home Friday night. Freshman Jarin Stevenson scored 17 points and senior Troy Arnold scored 15 for the Chargers. Northwood, with a half-game lead on East Chapel Hill for first place in the Big Eight, hosts East Chapel Hill at 7:30 p.m. tonight. East Chapel Hill beat Northwood 41-40 Jan. 22.
Westover 67, Overhills 62
The Wolverines edged visiting Overhills (3-8, 3-7) in a Patriot Athletic game Friday night in Fayetteville.
Girls basketball Harnett Central 47, Lee County 18
Harnett Central (5-2, 3-2) beat Lee County (2-6, 2-5) in a Tri-County 6 game Friday night.
Lyanah Molyneaux scored 15 points and Syniah McMiller scored 12 for HC. Julianna Gray scored eight points for the Lady Jackets.
Harnett Central played at Union Pines last night and plays at Southern Lee at 5:30 p.m. this evening. Lee County plays at Western Harnett at 5:30 p.m. this evening.
Union Pines 49, Southern Lee 13
The Lady Vikings (9-0, 7-0) beat Southern Lee (1-7, 1-6) in Tri-County 6 play Friday night in Cameron.
Emily Bowbliss had 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists for the Lady Vikings. Sara Adams added 10 points. Aaliyah Balser had five points and 15 rebounds.
Union Pines played Harnett Central last night and plays at Triton at 5:30 p.m. this evening. Southern Lee hosts Harnett Central at 5:30 p.m. this evening.
Triton 48, Western Harnett 39
Triton (10-1, 7-1) finished a sweep over Western Harnett (4-5, 1-5) in the Tri-County 6 Friday night.
Abby Hood and Aubree Bass scored 11 points each and Anastasia McDonald scored eight points for Triton. Hood and McDonald had five assists each.
Triton hosts Union Pines at 5:30 p.m. this evening. Western Harnett hosts Lee County at 5:30 p.m. this evening.
Chatham Charter 63, Clover Garden 56
Chatham Charter (7-2, 5-1) turned around a 58-57 loss to Clover Garden earlier in the season, giving Clover Garden its first loss of the season in their second Central Tar Heel game in Siler City Friday night.
Rebecca McGaughnea totaled a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Knights as Tamaya Walden scored 15 points, including four three-pointers, to go with four assists and three steals and Alexis Baldwin had 11 points and nine rebounds. Chatham Charter will play at North Rowan at 6 p.m. Friday.
Northwood 54, N. Durham 32
The Lady Chargers (10-0, 10-0) remained perfect with one game left in the regular season with a win at home Friday.
Te’Keyah Bland led Northwood with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Natalie Bell added 14 points.
Northwood hosts East Chapel Hill at 5:30 p.m. this evening.
Overhills 54, Westover 36
The Lady Jaguars (4-7, 4-6) finished their season with a victory at Westover Friday night.
Pinecrest 48, Hoke County 20
Pinecrest (7-4, 5-2) won a SAC game at Hoke County to end the regular season Friday.
No. 3-seeded Pinecrest played No. 6 Lumberton in the SAC Tournament first round last night. The semifinals are set for Wednesday.
