Union Pines 49, Western Harnett 12The Vikings (4-3, 3-2) finished the regular season winning at Western Harnett (0-7, 0-5) Thursday night.

Union Pines led the Eagles 22-6 at halftime, then took the lead to 35-12 in the third quarter.

UP could finish in a three-way tie for second in the Tri-County 6 pending the outcome of the Triton vs. Harnett Central game last night.

Pinecrest 28, Seventy-First 0

Pinecrest (5-2, 5-2) blanked Seventy-First to end the regular season, and improve the Patriots’ chances at a playoff berth, in Fayetteville Thursday night.

The Patriots jumped out to a 14-0 in the first quarter with Semet Cobb scoring on a 10-yard run and Aaron Scott scoring on a 28-yard reception. The Patriot defense got its second shutout of the season. The Patriots have to await outcomes of games tonight — especially Scotland vs. Jack Britt in the SAC — and the NCHSAA playoff field being released today.

Providence Grove 48, Jordan-Matthews 8

The Patriots (4-3) defeated the Jets (0-7) in a PAC 7 game in Franklinville Thursday night. Providence Grove led 41-0 at halftime.

Softball

Northwood 16, East Chapel Hill 6

Northwood (4-2, 4-2) scored 14 runs in the first three innings, for a 14-3 lead, and won a Big Eight game at home Thursday.

Caroline Dorshimer went 4 for 4 and scored two runs for the Lady Chargers. Susanna Lee, Sarah Warfford, Carlee Harris and Callen Perchinsky got three hits each. Erika Sells, Abi McLaurin, Shakhai Mole and Harris also scored two runs each.

The Lady Chargers got 24 hits. Lee pitched a complete game to get the win.

Northwood played Cedar Ridge last night and will host Southern Durham at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Northwood 2, Cedar Ridge 0 — OT

Sydney Cox and Monique Diaz scored goals in overtime to give the Lady Chargers (4-3-1, 4-3-1) a win at Cedar Ridge Thursday night. Kennedy Oyan made five saves in the Northwood goal.

Northwood will play at Chapel Hill at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.
