After an eventful winter break that saw a number of local teams competing both before and after Christmas, regular-season schedules resume this week, with a number of teams hitting the hardwood or the mats starting today.

Grace Christian School is knocking on the door of the NCISAA 1A state championship game again.

A number of state playoff games and conference tournaments will be getting under way in the days to come, starting with a handful today. Both volleyball and soccer have important matches upcoming.

Against any odds or reasonable expectations, the defending state champs have returned to the elite eight of the NCISAA 1A state playoffs.

Perhaps no team in the state could have had a better excuse for a bad season than defending NCISAA 1A state champion Lee Christian.

Brackets for the upcoming NCISAA 1A state playoffs in volleyball and soccer were announced on Sunday, and Grace Christian received some very favorable placings in the brackets.

Friday night was Championship Night at Grace Christian School, as the Crusaders hosted the Mid-Carolina Conference championship in four different levels of soccer and volleyball.

The championship battle in NCISAA Mid-Carolina Conference volleyball seesawed between Sanford and Clayton right down to Grace Christian’s regular-season finale Tuesday night.

The volleyball teams from Grace Christian and Lee Christian were in action on Tuesday evening, with the Crusaders coming out on top.

Since winning their final two matches of a season-opening tournament at home two weeks ago, Lee Christian’s volleyball team has kept on rolling.

Lee Christian had its first home volleyball matches of the 2021 season over the weekend, with the school hosting a tournament in which it played four times and came away with a 2-2 split.

Teams from both Grace Christian and Lee Christian will have their eyes on a trip to the state finals this afternoon. Crusaders fans can watch all of the action right here, while fans of the Falcons will need to take a road trip to Henderson.

Both local girls soccer teams competing at the NCISAA level earned bids to the 1A state soccer championships this week.
